Head of mobile research and development Koh Dong-jin replaces Shin, who is stepping back from day-to-day operations
Samsung has replaced its head of mobile JK Shin with head of mobile research and development Koh Dong-jin.
Shin (pictured), who has been in the role for the past six years, retains his formal position as one of three co-chief executives to focus on long-term strategy, but will step back from the daily running of the business.
In his time heading up the mobile division, Shin has overseen the launch of the Galaxy range of mobile devices, with the latest flagship smartphones, the Galaxy S6 and Sg edge, launched at Mobile World Congress in February.
Dong-jin has overseen the development of its mobile operating system, Tizen, and mobile payments business, Samsung Pay.
Financials and market share
The reshuffle comes after Samsung reported its Q3 financial results in October, which showed its mobile profits had increased 37 per cent year-on-year to 2.4 trillion won, but was down 13 per cent from the prior quarter.
According to IDC, Samsung smartphone market share has also fallen by nearly nine per cent over the past two years, from 32.5 per cent to 23.8 per cent.
