Samsung has announced its new Gear S3 smartwatch will go on sale this Friday (November 18), helping it maintain its position as a ‘leader in the wearables market.’
Pricing for the follow up to the Gear S2 starts from £349. There are two versions available; the ‘frontier’ (pictured below) and the ‘classic.’ The former has a more rugged look designed for outdoor usage, whilst the latter has been modelled on a more conventional analogue watch.
Design
The watch has a large circular face and can be customised with a variety of additional 22mm wrist straps. Users can download a variety of faces to customise the Gear S3’s screen.
Hardware
Major features include IP68 water resistance and built-in GPS. It is the first Samsung Gear smartwatch to come with a Corning Gorilla Glass screen. This is designed to be more scratch resistant and durable than regular smartwatch displays. Always On technology has been added to the Super AMOLED display, which means the time will always be displayed on the screen with minimal battery usage. The battery can also last for up to four days on a single charge.
Functionality
The bezel can be rotated to accept or reject calls and snooze the alarm without the user ever having to touch the screen. Users are able to draw on the screen using their fingers and the watch will automatically convert them to texts and emojis.
The S Health app has also been built in, allowing owners to track altitude, atmospheric pressure, weather, distance travelled and speed when running.
