Vodafone have partnered up with Emergency One, the largest supplier of Fire and Rescue vehicles in the Uk, to roll out smart fire engines in time for Christmas.
In addition to the radio system currently installed in all search and rescue vehicles, the new ‘e1Fleet’ will have computers installed that connect to Vodafone’s 4G-enabled Internet of Things network providing Fleet Management and Emergency One information from each vehicle.
Vodafone Director of Internet of Things Ivo Rook said “we are delighted to be working with Emergency One to improve the efficiency and reliability of Fire and Rescue vehicles up and down the country.”
The new systems will also run diagnostics which allow Emergency One to check over the vehicle and therefore save a significant amount of time and money spent on maintenance.
Fleet management and Central Command will also be able to track the location of the vehicles, the speed they are travelling at and the amount of fuel they are consuming which can all be vital information when more than one vehicle is travelling to a location.
Emergency One Project Manager said “Teaming up with Vodafone, we are proud of our innovative e1Fleet Telematics System which is used by a number of fire and rescue services around the UK.
“Our system has proved successful in allowing us to continually monitor the fire vehicles and provide a quick response to any issues that may arise.”
