Pangea appoints former O2 IoT head McPhillips

He is charged with assuming responsibility for Pangea’s revenue growth

Former O2 head of IoT wholesale distribution Bernie McPhillips has joined M2M specialist Pangea as its new sales director.

McPhillips was appointed into the newly created role at the Surbiton-based business this month. He had left O2 in February as part of a restructure which will potentially see 160 UK staff leave at the end of this month.

O2’s total employee base in the UK stands at approximately 6,250. He is charged with assuming responsibility for Pangea’s revenue growth, identifying new IoT solutions for devices and vehicles alongside building and maintaining relationships with new and existing partners.

McPhillips will report directly to Pangea managing director Dan Cunliffe, who was previously Plan.com fixed data digital director and O2 Wholesale head of partners and strategy.

Exceeding expectations

“Pangea’s revenue growth and partner acquisition have exceeded the expectations for a start-up,” said McPhillips.

“Really importantly for me, they only operate through channel, so there is zero conflict with a direct sales team and they put the Partners at the heart of everything that they do.”

Cuncliffe added: “Bernie’s understanding of the Internet of Things market, as well as his unprecedented record in working with partners will be a key driver in strategising and creating new valued opportunities for Pangea and our partner channel.

‘Critical experience’

“He has the critical experience of working closely with partners, so he’s therefore perfectly placed to make certain that our partners are getting the best possible service and the most from their partnership with Pangea.”
