Operator is given Government backed Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation for data protection
Vodafone has become the first network to be awarded the new government-endorsed Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation for keeping customers data extremely secure.
The operator is the first to meet the criteria set out in the government’s two-tier Cyber Essentials Scheme which they launched in June. It set’s out what organisations should do in order to mitigate the threat of standard internet attacks.
Mobile security is becoming increasingly important, prompting Vodafone to increase its security measures. Other networks will be forced to follow suit from October if they wish to bid on a number contracts involving data-handling.
Vodafone’s head of technology security, Howard Pinto, said of the accreditation: “We take cyber security and protection of our customers’ data very seriously. We want our customers to be assured that when they do business with us, we are doing everything possible to protect their data, our critical systems and business operations.”
Ed Vaizey MP, Minister for Culture and the Digital Economy, said it was reassuring that Vodafone was leading the way in mobile security by becoming the first company to receive the accreditation.
He added, ‘Protecting personal data depends on good cyber security, and the threats and challenges are getting ever more sophisticated.’
