Samsung announces trio of Galaxy A range handsets for 2016

Updated lineup include a new A3, A5 and A7 handset, with the latter two devices now including fingerprint scanners

Samsung has unveiled a trio of new devices as part of its updated Galaxy A smartphone range set to go on sale in April.

The Samsung Galaxy A3, A5 and A7 are all updated versions of handsets released last year in three different screen sizes: 4.7 inch for the A3, 5.2 inch for the A5 and 5.5 inch for the A7.

The A3 (2016) is powered by 1.5 GHz quad-core processor and runs on Android: Lollipop. It has a 13 megapixel camera on the rear and a 5MP sensor up front. It has 16GB in-built storage plus space for a microSD card. It has an 2,300mAh battery powering it.

The Galaxy A5 is a CAT 6 phone with a 1.6 GHz octa-core processor and a 2,900mAh fast-charging battery.

It too has 5MP and 13MP cameras on the front and rear, plus space for a microSD card. It also comes with a fingerprint scanner that allows users tot utilise Samsung’s contactless payments system, Samsung Pay.

The largest device is the A7, which also packs a fingerprint scanner plus CAT 6 connectivity. It too is powered by a 1.6GHz octa-core processor. But the battery is much bigger (3,300mAh), while the device packs 3GB of RAM compared with the A5 (2GB) and the A3 (1.5GB).

Samsung said the devices will go on sale in the UK in April 2016 before being expanded to other global markets, although pricing was not revealed.
