O2 partner up with Airwave to help Derbyshire’s Bobbys on the Beat

O2 have partnered up with communications specialists, Airwave, to improve Derbyshire police force’s communication and service it provides to the community.

1,500 officers at Derbyshire Constabulary will be equip with smartphones and applications that turn paper-based tasks into digital processes in an effort to improve efficiency.

Derbyshire Constabulary Assistant Chief Constable, Chris Haward, said “Our aim is to help our officers become more flexible than ever before, reducing the number of hours they spend in the office and making sure their time is being used in the most valuable way.

“Instead of travelling to and from the police station to enter information into systems from paper notebooks, the officers can send and receive information directly from the frontline.”

Airwave’s Pronto application will tackle the amount of time that officers are spending filling out paper work as it is built around common policing processes.

Motorola Solutions Sales Vice President, Phil Jefferson, said “We’re delighted that Derbyshire Constabulary has chosen Airwave and Pronto to be part of their mobility strategy.

“More than a third of UK police forces are now reaping the rewards of the Pronto application suite, which is taking a central role in unlocking the potential of technology in modern policing”

The technology has already been trialled at a mid-sized police force where the app was used to process 60,000 witness statements which saved 27 minutes on average, equating to a £42 saving per statement.

O2 Criminal Justice and Emergency Service Practice Partner, Steve Norris, said “The new Smartphones and applications will have a positive impact not only on the force but the community too.

“Derbyshire Constabulary is forward thinking and this partnership is an excellent example of how collaboration and connectivity can enable true flexibility and efficiency.”
